Work Environment: Chugachmiut employees strive for excellence in their services and, through our Employee Values Statement, serve with integrity. Employees must work in an environment where transparency and effective communication are essential. Chugachmiut has tools and training to assist employees in sharing problems, focusing on resolving issues, and correcting defective processes. The work is primarily performed in forest and range environments in steep terrain where surfaces may be extremely uneven, rocky, covered with vegetation, and in smoky conditions. Temperatures vary from above 100 degrees F to below freezing. Risks include smoke inhalation, fire entrapment, snake or insect bites and stings, dangerous animals, and some degree of physical danger and exposure to excessive machinery noise and falling and rolling material. Personnel must adjust and cope with exposure to weather elements, dust and smoke, poor sleeping and eating conditions, and unpredictable circumstances. Incumbents may be required to live in backcountry camps for extended periods. The hazardous nature of the work requires personal protective equipment (boots, hardhat, gloves, flame-resistant clothing, etc.) Position may require travel by light fixed-wing or rotor-wing aircraft. Physical Demands:
In performing these tasks, a close working relationship with Fire Management Agencies, including Federal, State, Borough, Native villages, Regional Corporations, and other private organizations, is required. The incumbent will work closely and coordinate efforts with Chugachmiut, the United States Forest Service, and the State of Alaska – Department of Natural Resources (DNR). This position involves the operation of a motor vehicle. Applicants must have (or obtain within 30 days of entrance on duty) a valid driver’s license. |

Hours of Work: | |||||||||||||
Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with one hour for lunch. Chugachmiut maintains a drug/alcohol and non-smoking work environment.
