Position Description
Position Title: Silviculture Forester
Department: Forestry
Reports To: Director of Forest Management FLSA Designation: Non Exempt

POSITION PURPOSE:
The employee will be responsible for silviculture plan execution in compliance with Tribal operations plans and
regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • All aspects of silviculture planning, fieldwork, office work, analysis, and reporting
  • Plan, contract and direct all types of harvesting, vegetation treatments, and reforestation projects
  • Verification of silviculture performance and efficacy
  • May at times assist in managing all aspects of logging operations including harvest set up, harvest inspections and merchandising trees into various forest products
  • Assists in planning, negotiations, administration, and inspection of other forestry-related activities such as road construction and maintenance, rights of way management, timber marking, boundary establishment, and other land management projects as assigned
  • Assists in development and administering budgets as directed
  • Participates in forest inventory projects
  • Prepare and negotiate contracts with independent contractors
  • Supervise contracted services, including certifying completion of work for payment
  • Plan and design forest inventories, gather field data, work up cruise data, assist in updating stand records and maps manually and electronically
  • Assist with prescribed burning activities
  • Provides wildfire and emergency response support as directed
  • Other duties as assigneQUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelors’ degree in Forestry or related field or equivalent in experience.
  • Degree + 1 year experience preferred.
  • Basic forestry skills.
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and Tribal forest practice rules/statues.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in project management and contract administration.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Capability to prioritize work activities and assignments.
  • Teaming skills including the ability and willingness to work in a diverse team environment.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Tribal forestry practices.
  • Current valid Oregon Drivers’ License required.
