SUMMARY: Under the direction of Land Resources Technician, the Land Resources Laborer will be responsible for a variety of tasks associated with land-based conservation and restoration efforts. This position is predominately outdoor field work, and will require work under varied weather and environmental conditions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Serve as a member of the field-crew for the Land Resources Program in seasonal activities such as tree planting, tree removal, seed collection, herbicide application, tree and plant maintenance, mowing/trimming, conducting prescribed burns, and other tasks as assigned.
- Operate vehicles and other equipment which may include ATV/UTV, passenger vehicles, unmanned aircraft, or water craft. This includes the ability to trailer field equipment.
- Practice proper and safe operation of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Check equipment to ensure proper function and safety.
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
- Document and record information as it is related to operational data, which may include entering, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic form.
- Provide information and recommendations pertaining to environmental protection and resource utilization to community members, landowners, other organizations, and the general public.
- Able to identify tree and plant species, and locate insect or disease damage.
- Assist with surveys, measuring, and mapping forested areas and other plots as needed.
- Effectively communicate information to supervisors, co-workers, and peers by telephone, in written form, or in person.
- Ability to work under varied weather and environmental conditions.
- Compliance with health and safety regulations, including daily health screenings, self-reporting, workspace hygiene practices, and other measures as communicated.
- Collect environmental data or samples.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no supervisory responsibilities with this position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED. One year of laborer experience in grounds-keeping, landscaping, chainsaw operation, forestry, or closely related work strongly preferred.

Possession of a valid State Driver License in accordance with Fleet Policy.
