SUMMARY:
The Youth Conservation Corp (YCC) is a Natural Resource Department (NRD) summer program intended to
provide LTBB youth with a summer job opportunity while familiarizing the youth with biological, environmental
and conservation enforcement professions of the Tribe. The YCC will consist of a youth conservation work
crew of 4-8 LTBB youth between the ages of 14 and 18 years old. The YCC will be charged with assisting and
completing various natural resource related projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Outdoor yard tool work. (Examples include: invasive species removal, plantings, campground
maintenance, trail clearing and grooming).
• Small agriculture and forest improvement.
• Aid NRD programs on various field work projects of assessments.
• Participate in Treaty Rights Enhancement events and activities.
• The development and completion of various natural resources projects.
• Safe performance of activities while on the job.
• Participation in actions and activities with other NRD programs or other relevant LTBB programs or
departments.
• Participate in cultural activities.
• Participate in professional development.
• Development of a natural resource related presentation to be given at the conclusion of the program.
• Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must be able to operate a computer and have effective writing and communication skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Previous work experience is preferred.

TERM:
These are seasonal positions the with the term beginning in May and running through October. Youth
employed will be asked to attend training before the summer work season and assist in the conducting
of limited number of Treaty Rights Enhancement Events. The training will be in May some time and will be after
school and/or on a weekend.
The Treaty Rights Enhancement Events that take place in the spring and fall during the school year will be
on the weekend or after school as well. Youth will be asked to work these events and should account for them
in their schedules. The NRD is willing to work with youth around school or sporting commitments but need to
be able to participate in a minimal number events. Treaty Rights Enhancement events typically average 1 per
month.
The summer work week will be typically be Monday-Thursday.
There is also the possibility of an offsite overnight work camp with the National Park Service in the UP. This
would be an 3 night/4 day work trip.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk, use hands to finger,
handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee
is occasionally required to sit, talk and hear.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
May be exposed to wet and/or humid extreme weather conditions. The employee will be frequently exposed
to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally field duties will require traveling long distances in harsh weather.
Wearing of safety equipment and clothing is mandatory.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
School work permit is required.
